Food Resarch and Innovation in a Circular Economy – Thailand’s Outlook towards ASEAN

Abstract

This talk will concentrate on food research and innovation in a context of circular economy and how Thailand adopts this concept. An overview of Thailand’s new STI ecosystem and lessons learnt from best practice within ASEAN member countries (AMS) will be discussed. Case study from food industry in various scales from SME to large company will be presented. In connecting to ASEAN economy, this talk will also cover Thailand’s a large-scale specialized economic zone, “Eastern Economic Corridor” project which has provisions for water management and environmental development. Like most AMS, natural resource, environment and agriculture is a key challenge and the government has tried to address it through research funding policy. Strategic research framework including zero waste and water security will be discussed. Finally, a prospect of future food and road map for ASEAN collaboration will be proposed.
