Abstract

Development Myanmar has been the lowest electricity usage among ASEAN countries according to the Asia Bank statistic data. On current situation, most of rural area far from national grid is staying without electricity access while few villages can access solar energy during summer season but cannot access for the whole year according to the geographic location and the weather condition.<br> As Myanmar has been opened up with the announcement of foreign investment law since June- 2016, energy demand is significantly required for the economic development in industrial sector. Government plans in the National Energy Policy include sector restructuring, investment planning, pricing and fuel subsidy review, renewable energy and energy efficiency development, promotion of private sector, increased international trade, and a national electrification program to achieve 100% electrification by 2030.<br> Our target hydropower project in Southern Shan state will be a landmark of the international joint research project between research institutes in Japan by using Japanese technology and research institutes in Myanmar in the form of ODA projects that aim to utilize research outcomes for the benefit of society. Obviously, selected site location is the least development sector in Southern Shan state where the six villages are staying around Sumoth Brook without electrification.<br> The potential source of hydropower site is situated in near Rankhu village of Fekone Township at Southern Shan State where the national grid has not been reached until now. Because of this challenge issue, residential people could not be promoted in social-economic development as well as their living standard and education.
