Abstract

Dam safety assessment is an urgent issue and is being implemented under major programs. However, the assessed reservoirs are often large ones with the importance of their design and management scales. With the number of small and medium-sized reservoirs of 6393/6886 in Vietnam, the safety issue of small and medium-sized reservoirs was being posed, but has not received proper attention. This paper will focus on two major issues: (1) rapid assessment of dam safety for small and medium-sized hydraulic structures; (2) providing important results corresponding to the calculation scenarios and using the results in the safety management of the dam.<br> The specific case is to assess the safety of Ba Khe reservoir, which is a part of the national dam safety assessment program, and is also a result of the rapid assessment program of dam safety in cooperation with New Zealand. The evaluation method uses the results of the Vietnam - New Zealand bilateral program (DRAFT). In addition to comparing the results, the author uses open source software (IRIC) to confirm the calculated values with high reliability, especially in rapid assessment of dam safety to serve the management of the flood drainage corridor.
