| Species richness of water birds was observed by making assessment on the effect of some physicochemical factors of water bodies and its impacts (if available) on water bird population and its distribution in the vicinity of Pauk Wetland in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, Myanmar, from November, 2018 to April, 2019. Water bird counting and watching were regularly carried out once per month with effective ways as direct count and point count methods were systematically applied. Total of 45 water bird species belonging to 36 genera, 14 families and seven orders were recorded. Out of 45 species, 22 species were residents and 23 species were winter visitors. One vulnerable species, Ciconia episoupus and six globally near-threatened species, Aythya nyroca, Mycteria leucocephala, Threskiornis melanocephalus, Pelecanus philippensis, Anhinga melanogaster and Limosa limosa were observed. Water resources were analyzed during planting and harvesting period of cultivated plants Melon species from November to April especially eight physicochemical parameters as water depth, water temperature, pH, DO, BOD, TDS, CaCO3, and nitrite are related with the richness of water bird species and its populations. Therefore, water bird species richness had strong positive correlation with water depth but negative correlation with water temperature and pH. |
