Abstract
Buong River is a significant branch of Dong Nai river. It provides water for irrigation, industry and population in Dong Nai province and others places. Dong Nai Province economy is growing rapid during the last 20 years, however, at the cost of environment pollution. This research was conducted to assess the Buong River water quality, identifying the factors for water pollution and proposing solutions to prevent further contamination them improving the conditions. Field survey, water quality test, WQI calculation and other mathematical formula were applied to reach the objectives. The results show that water is heavily polluted from different major sources: urban population, husbandry, industrial activities, plantation and medical waste water. Among above factors, municipal wastewater from urban area and agricultural wastewater mostly from animal raising are the top 2 contributors. As a result, the river can only be used for transportation. This study proposes several important solutions for water management in Dong Nai province which are considered to be practical at local socio-economic conditions.
