Abstract

Water resources situations with species composition of some freshwater prawns along Ayeyarwady River, Sagaing Segment, Sagaing Region were conducted from January 2019 to August 2019. Study site was divided into three sites namely Mingun, Sagaing and YwarThit Gyi. A total of eight species of freshwater prawns under genus Macrobrachium (Bate, 1868) was recorded namely M. malcolmsonii, M. palaemonoides, M. Lamarrei, M. scabriculum, M.lanchesteri, M.  johnsoni, M. formosense and Marcrobrachiumsp.1. All recorded eight species were observed from site III, seven species from site II but three species from site I. The maximum number of individuals (61961) was recorded for M. lamarrei and species composition was 52.56% for combination of three sites. The minimum number of individuals (285) was recorded for M. formosense and species composition was 0.24% for combination data. The physico chemical indicators of the water resources are not too much impact on the studied species but few exceptional cases that can be ignored by comparing W.H.O standard, water resources are chemically potable, in doing so, and the highest occurrence for site I, site II and site III was recorded in April, February and March respectively. M. malcolmsonii and M. lamarrei were observed throughout the study period for combined sites. These studied species are economically importance for local community; therefore, it is necessary to conserve water resources with engagement of all stakeholders.
