Abstract
A laboratory feeding trial was conducted for 90 days using common carp, Cyprinus carpio and colour carp, koi, Cyprinus sp. fingerlings to evaluate the growth and survival rates. This research was investigated by feeding five experimental diets containing the nutrient 25% protein for common carp, C. carpio and 30% for koi, C. carpio fingerlings using rice bran, fishmeal powder, groundnut cake, soybean meal, sesame cake and sunflower seed cake. Tokyu, commercial feed was used as a control diet. Although common carp, C. carpio is omnivorous; the formulated agricultural by-product of rice bran plus groundnut oil cake and rice bran plus sesame oil cake and sunflower oil cake gave the best growth and survival rates for this species. Therefore the prepared diets could be made based upon the locally available agricultural by-products were suitable for the studied species. Moreover all aquatic organisms are directly or indirectly affected by the physio-chemical characteristics of their environment. The contamination of freshwater with heavy metals has become the threat to public water supplies and damage caused to the aquatic life. Therefore this research is to improve the quality of the fish stocks by feeding the formulated feed for the consumers.
