Abstract

Irrawaddy River is main stream of Myanmar environmental indicator in which Irrawaddy dolphins are currently staying the segment of Irrawaddy River between Kyauk Myaung Township and Sint Gu Township where ecological richness is highest as well as water qualities are favorable for the survival for Irrawaddy dolphins and its ecosystem. In this regards, local communities are taking good care of the populations of dolphins for their villages’ image with environmental awareness because many environmental conservation groups as Non-Government Organization (NGO), International Non-Government Organization (INGO) and also many stakeholders as researchers, scientists, policy makers from local as well as international associations who make effective surveys as well as educates for conservation of dolphins there. In this study, regarding desirable and imperative values of W.H.O standard, physico chemical indicators of water resources were analyzed in this study area, in doing so, the color of water result is little higher than the W.H.O criteria but the amount can be neglected within huge water bodies because the rest of physico chemical indicators are lesser than W.H.O standard, therefore, there are no serious environmental impacts on the survival of dolphins. The most serious problem is battery shock fishing, in doing so, it may be damaged of aquatic ecosystem of Irrawaddy River especially dolphins’ survival, and therefore, it is vital importance to monitor the dolphins with conservation of water resources.
