Abstract

Groundwater (GW) plays an important role in regional and global water cycles. However, GW recently is challenging to monitor because of limited access to the in-situ observations. In this study, satellite observations are used to estimate GW changes using Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) – NOAH product data. Using cloud computing platform of Google Earth Engine, an application is developed to allow users to assess groundwater change across a target region. Since GRACE has low resolutions, the current version can only provide insights about groundwater changes in large river basin than 10,000 km2. Future down sampling methods can be integrated into the app for extracting more groundwater signals for smaller basins.
