As being officially announced “a water deficient nation” (Do, 2007), together with two third of countries water resources coming from aboard, Vietnam is facing many challenges in water resources management toward sustainable development in the future.
Therefore, operational water monitoring and forecasting in Vietnam has been ranking as top priority for water management in the country.
The water resources monitoring systems has been developed since 1980s included surface water resources monitoring systems and ground water resources monitoring systems. The conventional method of testing water quality is to gather samples of water manually and send to the lab to test and analyze. This method is time consuming, wastage of man power, and not economical. The National Centre for Water Resources Planning and Investigation (NAWAPI) has established a series of monitoring stations on water bodies across the country. All the stations will operate in real time and central station can access data from any of the above stations using GPRS/GSM or 3G cellular services.
